Whilst this un English, sweltering summer has had many disadvantages, one advantage it has created for classic car enthusiasts, is dry weekends to drive and display their cars. No surprise then that we managed to attract 24 fine examples from amongst the Club membership to attend our 2026 National Day meeting held in the grounds of Beaulieu, Hampshire. The venue's proximity to the Isle of Wight persuaded three members to pay the costly ferry price and come and join in. Thank you, Gowan, Graeme and Paul.
Two race cars were on display along with pre and facelift Broadspeed examples, a Perana and two RS3100s. The range of models and colours was vast and truly displayed the colourful nature of the 1970s - so much more cheerful than today!
In the museum itself, they have a Sapphire Blue "K" reg, 1600L. This car is unusual in that it sports an after market vinyl roof with a very odd finish around the "C" pillar.
Something else I spotted in the museum was a period advert for a Dinky toy Mk1 Capri. Don't think I ever recall seeing this particular advert before.
The museum owes its existence to the Montague family who own the Beaulieu estate. Earlier generations were great automobile enthusiasts which is in evidence if you look around the palace/house.
It appears though that the collection will be moving in the not too distant future. Let's hope they find a good new home which will allow them to continue to expand.
A thoroughly lovely day offering the chance to catch up with old friends and make the acquaintance of a few new ones.
